Zaqqūm is the tree mentioned in the Qur’an, growing in Hell.
Its fruit tempts the burning sinners, only to scorch their stomachs and return to them every pain they inflicted on others during their lives.

In this work, the tree stands as a moral axis.
Its twisted branches rise from darkness, bearing a single red fruit that is not nourishment, but consequence.
Temptation and punishment become one and the same.
